Unity3d 3.5 Developer Preview

It is finally here! Well sort of. It may just be a developer preview, but at least we can start looking at what is new before the holidays are over :)

Some of the new highlights are:
Shuriken Particle System
Built-in Pathfinding
Occlusion Culling & LOD
Google Chrome Native Client deployment
Linear Space Lighting and HDR
And so much more...

Head over to the mothership and read all about it here.

No GUI :-(

Lots of exciting additions, but I was sorry to see that the new GUI didn't make it into this release. Do you think/know if any of these updates directly affect the RPG tutorial?

Merry Christmas!
Chris

I have tested the tutorial in

I have tested the tutorial in the new version and everything seems to be working fine. I was really looking forward to the new GUI as well. Since it did not make it in this release, I am just going to stick with the way we are doing it now and just redo it all over again when the a version of Unity comes out that has the new GUI stuff in it.

There are a lot of things that did make it in that I really want to look over though. I hope to start looking at some of the new features tomorrow.

There are a lot of really

There are a lot of really great features but, unfortunately, they're Pro only. This is the first time Unity has ever done that. Most of the "Pro" features have been extra goodies and eye-candy, never additions that everyone has been looking forward to (for instance, pathfinding and LOD support).

I'm kind of disappointed that I won't get to play with any of the new things until I can save enough to go Pro. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through your tutorials! :-)

Cheers,
Chris

I'm not sure if Scaleform is

I'm not sure if Scaleform is available at the moment but according to this thread, it'll be coming soon. I guess we'll see when Petey does a "new feature overview" video (hint hint). :-)

It will be, but since

It will be, but since Autodesk bought it they have only given developer access to the big boy studios to use.
