While the Unity3D website suggests placing SketchUp models directly in a Unity project would work and trigger the FBX-export, it didn't work (at least not on Mac OSX and SketchUp 7.1 Pro). As you can see, the file is shown, but not recognized. No real problem, though, as we can export the file into the FBX format. This is properly recognized. If we ensure we set the file units in the SketchUp FBX-options dialog properly, we can be sure that the model inside Unity will use the same units (1m = 1 unit in Unity3D). If not, we can rescale it inside Unity3D. You can also generate colliders (so collision will be properly generated for that model). And apply the changes.
